Golden coast



This is our beach. We are staying at Marathon Beach on the Golden Coast. We arrived by bus from Athens on Saturday.  It was supposed to take an hour and a half but we over shot our stop and had to get another bus back! Our conductor seemed to take it personally.  He put us off the bus and demanded that we 'WAIT There!'

I will try to get day time views of the resort but so far we've been relaxing.

This is a shot from the taverna where we ate tonight. I had fresh anchovies which are not at all like the salty preserved ones.

Marathon is (obviously) 26 miles from Athens and a very  Greek holiday resort.  We plan to hire a taxi to  visit key sites later in the week.

We've been swimming . The sea is lovely once you're in but stoney when walking in.

We have been travelling for a couple of days now but haven't posted much because my phone battery went down and there was nowhere to charge it and Peter has forgotten all his passwords! We enjoyed our ferry across the North Sea and had a quick walk in Amsterdam before catching a train to Cologne. Amsterdam train station. We loved Cologne. The gothic cathedral is amazing.  No photo can do it justice. Impressive from the outside it also takes your breath away inside. It took over 600 years to build. The mosaic floors are beautifully detailed but its the soaring height and the windows which so impressed. Many of the windows are modern and not trying to be anything other They were replaced after the war . We enjoyed sitting by the Rhine in the sun  drinking cold beer. There were loads of those long river cruise boats tied up. Unfortunately we didn't see the Roman History museum as its being refurbished.  And sorry Laurence we didnt have time for the art museum.
